Michigan DTMB - New State Psychiatric Hospital

Durapods delivered 231 fully integrated behavioral health bathroom pods engineered through a prevention-through-design framework specific to high-acuity psychiatric care.

Rather than treating ligature resistance as a fixture selection exercise, the pods were developed as controlled environments. Concealed plumbing infrastructure, anti-tamper fastening systems, monolithic grab bar transitions, and vandal-resistant components were coordinated into a single manufactured assembly — eliminating exposed conditions, reducing field variability, and tightening tolerance control.

By moving behavioral health detailing upstream into fabrication, the project reduced onsite risk, improved quality control, and ensured consistent compliance across all 231 units.
